Grandpa Jan

This morning I finished the BIG painting!!
It is my grandfather Jan (my fathers father). He lived from 1884 till 1976.
size painting: 75 -115 cm.

The structure is made with a plastic mask and gesso. LOVE the effect!!!
And this is the original picture:
I think he was about 20 years old here, dressed in the traditional costume of Walcheren (part of the province Zeeland), inclusive the golden earrings!!
I wonder what he would say about this painting if he could see it…
Risking my life, balancing on a ladder which stood on the stairs and with help of Carmen I managed to get the painting at it’s place high on the wall above the stairs….
I’ve already made preparations for the next paintings… It’s gonna be for Carmen’s room. She’s a huge fan of One Direction so the five boys gonna be immortalized on canvas…
I have to warn you… painting is contagious… today Carmen started on her first canvas!!

Jeetje meis… het is je gelukt om Jan boven de trap te krijgen. Het klonk heel gevaarlijk hoor, toen je vertelde wat je wilde doen – ik ben blij dat Carmen er bijstond om je eventueel op te vangen (en nóg blijer dat het niet nodig was!) Je schilderij hangt er helemaal prachtig!!! De structuur is inderdaad heel mooi, die techniek wil ik ook wel eens gaan toepassen. Ik ben heel benieuwd naar het schilderij van Carmen straks! Veel plezier, jullie samen!

Prachtig, Lena! Ik weet niet welke techniek je hier oploslaat maar het gaat je megagoed af!!!! En wat een schitterende plek heb je er voor gevonden. Erg knap ook dat je op zulk groot formaat heb gewerkt!
